So...now that I have my own land and have started a garden I'm thinking about composting! I hate throwing food scraps out but I've never really composted before! Growing up on the farm we had a compost heap but when you live miles out in the country and have a house surrounded by cow pasture you just take your scraps and heave them into a pile on the other side of the fence....not something that would make me a favorite of the neighbors around here though =) I've found some solutions for catching your indoor scraps. Cute, no? But what about outside? Anyone a composter and have some tips?

my parents have always composted in audubon! =)
they just throw it in a pile behind their shed so it's not visible to any neighbors and cover it will some dirt so no animals (read: extremely annoying audubon squirrels) get into it. i've also heard of using a trash can or bucket. http://organicgardening.about.com/od/compost/a/cancomposter.htm
i chuck my stuff in the trees out back. does that help? :) but i've looked into the inside ones and they seem nice! woods are just easier. lol
We're working on this too. My friend a few blocks over is a pro and we're taking a field trip there to get tips. I'll pass on my stolen knowledge...
I saw a compost container at Home Depot the other day. It's small-ish and not completely unnatractive. I can't remember the price though. Seems like it was in the $50 range, but I could be wrong.
We have this one and have been using it for a number of years. Does a good job, no smell, just remember to balance brown and green scraps (leaves and food scraps) and water and turn.
